しかも、この問題には莫大な利権が絡んでいるわけで、そのために子どもたちを実験用モルモットにするのかと親たちは怒っている。どのくらいの規模の利権かといえば、ピアソンがニューヨーク市のDepartment of Educationと結んだ契約は、実に5年間で32百万ドル（約25億5千万円）だ（Huffington

2009年、フォード財団は、Building Knowledge for Social Justice（「社会的正義に向けた知識の蓄積」）という名の、新たな政治的パラダイム、つまり民主的社会における不平等の原因と結果に関する「常識」を養うことを目的とする２年間のプロジェクトを立ち上げた。このプロジェクトは、不平等の原因に関する理解を、単なる個人的な見解から公的な理解へと転換し得る研究、教育、そしてコミュニケーション戦略を発展させるために、アメリカにおける不平等の構造と個人主義、競争、市場のイデオロギーとの交差点を吟味する。
In 2009, the Ford Foundation launched a two-year project titled Building Knowledge for Social Justice (BKSJ) to foster a new political paradigm, or "common sense" about the causes and consequences of inequality in a democratic society. The project examines the intersection between structures of inequality in the U.S. and an ideology of individualism, competition, and markets in order to develop scholarship, education, and communication strategies that can shift public understanding of the causes of inequality away from simple individualistic explanations.

…we’re not just demanding economic justice and social equality. We are assembling in public, we are coming together as bodies in alliance in the street and in the square, we’re standing here together making democracy enacting the phrase, “We The People.”
"I’m so blessed to be here. It got me spiritually break-dancing on the way here, because when you bring folks together of all colors, all cultures, all genders, all sexual orientations, the elites will tremble in their boots!!"
A Love Supreme (from The Occupied Wall St. Journal) Revolution may scare some people because of its connotation of violence. And this is understandable in light of many past revolutions, such as the American revolutions against monarchy in 1776 or against slavery in 1861. But the revolution in our time — against oligarchy and plutocracy — need not be an ugly and violent one. The rich legacies of Martin Luther King and Nelson Mandela, and recent revolutions in Tunisia and Egypt, have taught us that we can deal with our social catastrophes with social compassion and that we can transform unjust societies with courageous visions and nonviolent strategies. If we equip ourselves with truthful systemic analyses of power in our minds, moral commitments of steel in our backs and a genuine joy in serving others in our hearts, then our dream of a nascent justice spread across the globe may be no mere illusion. We are prisoners of a blood-stained, tear-soaked hope. This means we are free to imagine and create a more deeply democratic world than we have yet witnessed in history. （和訳はしばらくお待ちください。）

AERAというのはアメリカ教育学会というアメリカ最大の教育学会。それをOccupyしようという呼びかけだ。ここでは多くは語らないことにするが、特に2001年のNo Child Left Behind以降、米連邦政府の教育学に対する政治的侵害が甚だしい。僕が最も問題だと思うのは、研究費の配分を利用して、学術的アプローチそして分野に優劣をつけていることだ。政治が学問に口を出さないのは当たり前のことではないのか。そしてこれらの序列化が、公教育の民営化とそれに伴う公教育の解体に絶妙に結び付いている。そして、当然のことながら、公共事業最後のジャックポットとも呼ばれる公教育の民営化には、様々な利権が絡んでいて、1%の影は常につきまとっている。
数日前、NY市にあるNew Schoolにて、Nation magazine と The New School の合同シンポジウム、"Occupy Everywhere: On the New Politics and Possibilities of the Movement Against Corporate Power" が行われた。

I know a lot of people who say, “It’s gotta get more organized,” “It’s gotta have a plan,” or “What’s the agenda?” “What’s the way forward?” “What’s the next step?” You know it’s enough right now… First of all, it already has some important victories:
It has alleviated despair in this country,
It has killed apathy,
It has changed the conversation in a profound way.
7, 8 weeks ago, all we were listening to was debt ceiling and deficit crisis, and you know, nobody is talking about the destruction any longer.
And I said, “Well, actually, Goldman Sachs organized it. Citi Bank organized it, BP organized it!!”

“You have been occupied by Wall St.
Your homes have been occupied by Wall St. Your government has been occupied by Wall St. Your media has been occupied by Wall St. So, it’s OK for you to say,
If there is one thing I know, it is that the 1 percent loves a crisis. When people are panicked and desperate and no one seems to know what to do, that is the ideal time to push through their wish list of pro-corporate policies: privatizing education and social security, slashing public services, getting rid of the last constraints on corporate power. Amidst the economic crisis, this is happening the world over.
And there is only one thing that can block this tactic, and fortunately, it’s a very big thing: the 99 percent. And that 99 percent is taking to the streets from Madison to Madrid to say “No. We will not pay for your crisis.”
“There’s a system where we socialize losses and privatize gains…That’s not capitalism, that’s not a market economy, that’s a distorted economy and if we continue with that we won’t succeed in growing, and we won’t succeed in creating a just society.”
このような点は、１０月９日の時点で、プリンストン大学のノーベル賞受賞エコノミスト兼NY Timesの人気コラムニストであるPaul Krugmanが、Panic of the Plutocratsという記事で既に指摘している。（ちなみに、‘Plutocrats’とは、Citi Groupが外部には内密に超大口の顧客に敬意を払ってを命名したもので、世界中の富を自在に操る1%の人間のこと。）Plutocratsのオーバーリアクションを指して彼は次のように言っている。
“So who’s really being un-American here? Not the protesters, who are simply trying to get their voices heard. No, the real extremists here are America’s oligarchs, who want to suppress any criticism of the sources of their wealth.”
